Game Stop is currently the home of The Black Series "Gaming Greats" line (sponsored). That line is a mix of new sculpts and repacks/repaints. What makes the lack of a Vintage Collection companion line so frustrating is that it could be kicked off with ALL repacks, and the fans would be singing the combined praises of Hasbro and Game Stop. To that point on the subject of repacks, we need to once again clarify two points that seem to be a perpetual point of confusion between collectors and Hasbro:
Hasbro, collectors DO NOT oppose repacks. We do not oppose repacks at all. We were furious at the specific repacks you chose for the early return of The Vintage Collection. You overcorrected on the repack issue, and you've thrown out the baby with the bathwater. There are numerous repacks that fans would celebrate as much as all new sculpts. I'm personally more frustrated with this issue than I am at the small number of newly tooled figures.
Hasbro, just because the community rejected the planned Darth Revan repack does not mean that all figures from prior to 2010 are "bad". In fact 2008 and 2009 have some of the best figures ever. We rejected that Darth Revan figure because it's a bad figure. It was a bad figure in 2007 when it was released. It's a discreet case and a blanket judgement should not be made that there is an arbitrary cut off for which figures are viable Vintage Collection repacks. The following list only has one post-2010 figure.
This list has been workshopped with my fellow gaming enthusiast, Randy of "5POA is not okay" fame. These would sell like crazy and fans would celebrate their re-release.
This is the only Vintage Collection figure on the list. Like all figures that were only in one case assortment during TVC 1.0, it goes for a fortune on the secondary market.
A number of fans have joined the hobby in the 12 years since this figure was released, and the secondary market doesn't offer an attractive option. Loose samples sell for $30+. This figure would look stunning on a TVC card.
This figure is from the insanely scarce Toys R Us exclusive Expanded Universe wave at the end of The Legacy Collection. This is a $100 plus figure on the secondary market. With the exception of the Spacetrooper, all of the figures from that wave make for viable repacks. Speaking of which...
Okay, so this probably doesn't fit into the continuity of the Dark Trooper in The Mandalorian, but the association makes this a natural to see re-release soon. This is a $60 plus figure on the secondary market.
Galen Marek has had many action figure releases, but only one of them has been on a single card. The rest of them come in multipacks, which make them hard to acquire for new fans. There are many to chose from, but the Raxus Prime outfit is one of the most visually distinctive, and the figure still holds up today.
There you have it. Hasbro, as the saying goes, put that in a box and people will buy it.
And we didn't even touch on potential repaints like the Airborne Trooper repainted as a Purge Trooper, or the Death Star Gunner repainted as an Imperial Engineer.
