You may recall that we recently conducted a series of articles featuring figures we felt would be good HasLab candidates. We pitched four "deep cut" Return of the Jedi figures, that, for various reasons, might not be viable for general retail. They are:
This was building toward the concept of a HasLab 4-pack, hence the Episode VI theme. Our friend John Miko from the Star Wars Vintage Collection Facebook Group graciously provided mocks ups for the multi-pack to bring the entire concept home (and to whet your appetites for such a project). The full sized image is below.
So what says you about this idea? Let's use the hypothetical price point of $20 per figure and thus $80 for the entire set. The next part is highly unscientific to determine how many backers it would require. The backing required for the Razor Crest was 6,000 units at $350 each for a total gross intake of $2.1 million. If we assume that's the minimum amount of gross Hasbro needs to make a Star Wars HasLab worthwhile, and divide it by $80, it would mean this hypothetical 4-pack would require 26,250 backers. Hasbro seems to like round numbers, so we'll call it 27,000.
Do you think this set would get backed with those parameters? I do. I know for myself I would back 5 of them right away and consider backing more. As mentioned in all of the write ups, these characters appear in both the Palace and in the Barge, so I would want 2 to open, 1 to keep carded and the 1 just in case. At that point, I might as well go for the max single order of 5.
The big question is what could Hasbro do for a HasLab figure pack stretch goals? The obvious easy one is a display stand similar to the vintage Kenner mail away Star Wars Collector's Action Stand. After that, some sort of accessory pack and environment piece might be doable.
