Rumors are swirling that TVC 2.0 will relaunch with a wave of repacked The Force Awakens figures. These are the LAST figures that need more retail exposure. These figures are still working through the retail pipeline a year and a half after the movie’s release. Hit the jump to read more.

The return of the Vintage Collection was announced last month at Celebration. In a dramatic presentation that built to a pregnant pause, the line’s return was heralded with one figure: a re-release Jakku Rey from Walmart’s exclusive 3.75” Black Series line. Hasbro, if you launch the line with that figure, we’re doomed. It has nothing to do with the source. It’s just the market. Hit the “read more” link for our thoughts.
Also, we realize the launch wave is probably locked in at this point, so we’re not expecting this article to change anything, but at least we’ll get to say “we told you so”. And that’s what the internet is for, after all.

We are all excited that TVC is coming back next year. We should be satisfied with this news, and should simply be patient and hope for the best. But we’re obnoxious collectors, so we’re also looking for a suitable line of vehicles to compliment the new line. Just look at the awesomeness of this thumbnail below! No, we’re not looking for a battle-damaged repaint of the misrepresented and oft-maligned Rogue One AT-ACT. Or…are we?

It’s official. The winner of the 2017 Vintage Collection Fan’s Choice poll is Doctor Aphra.
No surprises here. Happy? Disappointed? Ambivalent?
The poll results don’t make much sense to us, but it seems what is done is done. We only hope that the vote was legitimate, and all those that selected Doctor Aphra will put their money where their mouse-click is, and buy it at retail. May The Vintage Collection survive this early challenge!
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Hasbro has been conducting the Fans’ Choice poll since the POTJ days, and the sales of those figures has been hit or miss. Time’s running out! Get your vote in bef- ....eh, don’t bother. Looks like a landslide in favor of someone named Doctor Aphra. I’m not sure if she is a medical practitioner or a holder of an accredited academic degree. Old Man Palps is the OT leader, tying for a distant third place. The votes of the three OT characters combined are still crushed by this newcomer.
Why is this? Are we old school collectors not the powerful voice we think we are? Are we no longer representative of the collecting community? Do those that currently and regularly patrol the various collecting fan sites prefer new characters from the television cartoons? Has the 40 year history of our beloved franchise divided fans into two irreconcilable twenty-year eras?
Here at the firm of Nomad and Other Guy, we have been discussing what the Spring 2018 launch wave of The Vintage Collection 2.0 should look like. What’s important to note is that we’re not focusing on the ultimate collector case filled with obscure characters like Glee-Glop and the Floopty-Doos. That would be retail death. We’re trying to brainstorm the ideal launch wave for retail success. And as usual, Bret and I don’t agree on what that case would look like. We also argued about whether or not anyone would want to read this. I said no, and I put my money where my mouth is. For every comment above 1000 this article gets, I will buy him 10 AT-ACTs. With Hasbro’s announcement at Celebration Orlando of the Spring 2018 revival of The Vintage Collection, we are collecting your votes for the top 6 choices for a figure in the new line. We will submit the results to Hasbro later this week, so please vote quickly, and pass the word so our voices can be heard in support for the 3.75” collector line.

Last night an Ebay seller by the name of tigertoys07 sold off the entire Vintage Collection via individual auctions. The results frankly have my jaw on the floor. Keep in mind that these are all well preserved unpunched carded figures which will always command a premium, and also serves as a reminder of the value of a well curated collection. Throwing figures in a Rubber Maid bin is causing them to lose value by the minute. Keeping your desirable figures in Star Cases in a cool dry place away from sunlight can be rewarding in many ways. I frequently check completed auctions on Ebay to see if anything is starting to creep up in value. Due to its limited release and on-line only availability, the Vintage Collection Emperor’s Royal Guard has always fetched a premium, but when an Emperor's Royal Guard recently sold for $85, I was shocked. Admittedly the final prices are typically in the mid $50 range, but this recent auction could start pushing the value. Time to get this figure back on the market, Hasbro.
Every good reset (see post below) is preceded by a cleansing clearance. And with that, the Toys R Us exclusive Vintage Collection X-Wing Fighter (Red 2) is on clearance for $39.98 down from $59.99. Yes, that is my thumb in the upper left. If you want the full sized image, hit the read more link.
