By the end of this year, there will be more numbered figures as part of TVC 2.0 than were released in TVC 1.0, which tragically ended with VC115. I remember a sense of sadness when those good times ended. Ordering cases online was finally becoming practical which made securing those minty unpunched cards virtually guaranteed. It lessened the importance of finding figures in store, which was a good thing because brick and mortar was effectively shut down by the 2012 Phantom Menace launch wave. While the figures in TVC 2.0 are now leaps and bounds beyond what was being delivered during the first run, TVC 1.0 wasn't beset by any numbering issues.
In TVC 2.0, Hasbro has had some difficulty with the Vintage Collection sequence. Both Din Djarin (The Mandalorian) and the Incinerator Trooper share the number VC177. Both The Mandalorian and Grogu (Maldo Kreis) and the Elite Squad Trooper (review upcoming) share the number VC211. Collection numbering is important. If it weren't, Hasbro wouldn't bother with it. Those numbers press on the human obsessive compulsive nerve that seems prevalent among many collectors. We want unbroken numbered runs of things whether they be comic books, baseball cards, or the Vintage Collection. So those duplicated numbers are a nuisance, but also offer flexibility. You could skip one of the two figures that share a common number, and still have a complete sequence. Having VC188 is more problematic. We have a gap in the string. It's like playing only the first five notes of Shave and a Haircut.
What makes this noteworthy is that we will shortly be 50 numbers past VC188. It's beginning to feel like that it has been forgotten. Hasbro, please fill in this number soon. Looking at that blank "coming soon" spot on our Vintage Collection basic figure menu is keeping me up at night! Meanwhile, I have a suggestion on what can take up that slot:
