Just like the Din Djarin figure we reviewed yesterday, this is a Walmart exclusive.  Unlike that same figure, this one is priced the same as a basic figure at $12.99.  For whatever reason, both figures have been released with numbers VC177.  It’s likely (not confirmed) that one of them should have been VC176.  It remains to be seen if Hasbro will make a correction, and if they do, on which figure.

The Incinerator Trooper made an appearance in the final episode of season 1 of The Mandalorian.  The trooper made an ominous debut during the standoff at the Nevarro City cantina.  He marched alone towards the doorway, stepping over the corpses of his many fallen brothers, and attempted to ignite the joint, and everyone inside.  Unfortunately, he didn’t account for The Child, who decided that would be a good moment to do the hand wavy thing.  It would be the last thing this trooper ever saw.

It seems clear that Favreau and Filoni drew inspiration from the Legends source of The Force Unleashed video game for this character design.  That’s a good thing, because it’s a pretty cool design.  We even have a figure of the original, but it used a subpar mold for the day, of course, and it came with a regular blaster instead of a flamethrower.

The Incinerator Trooper here is based on the almost perfect VC140 Imperial Stormtrooper sculpt.  One of small nitpicks of that sculpt is the absence of the holster (depending on which scene/source you are looking at), but that’s not relevant here, as the figure doesn’t have use a standard blaster.  The trooper has the flared shins, which are slightly annoying aesthetically, and as Chris mentioned in his VC140 review, the lack of rocker ankles is a travesty.  All that said, it’s an amazing stormtrooper figure.

The things that make this figure new are the red paint pattern, which is very similar to the aforementioned Force Unleashed version, and the backpack/hose/flamethrower accessory, which is probably not removable.  I was afraid to try, for fear of breakage, but it doesn’t look like it’s meant to be removed.  The red pauldron is part of the fuel pack which has a hose leading to the flamethrower.  This whole assembly appears to be one piece.  This is fine by me, but I’m sure some people would rather it have been crafted as separate parts in order to provide variable display options.

The figure can grip the flamethrower pretty well with the trigger hand, but you’ll have to kind of fake the barrel supporting hand, or just stretch the (thankfully) soft plastic hands to grip the wide barrel.  So while it’s a little bit of a stretch to say it’s a true two-handed weapon grip, it’s close enough without Hasbro having needed to sculpt a new open palm for the left hand.

Since this assembly isn’t removable, it’s not a true accessory.  Therefore the only thing the figure technically comes with is the long flame attachment.  It’s a nice sculpt with translucent orange coloring.  It attaches strongly to the ignition prongs at the tip of the barrel.  It’s also not that difficult to pose the figure, as it seems Hasbro designed the whole package to have a center of gravity that accommodates the fully extended flame.

As I was setting up the scenery for the gallery shots above, it dawned on me that Hasbro is quickly closing in on us being able to complete the scene.  We’ve got this Incinerator Trooper, Remnant Stormtroopers, Imperial Stormtroopers (clean), Death Troopers, battle damaged Beskar Din Djarin, The Child, and Cara Dune.  We also know that Moff Gideon is coming in early 2021.  We even have the Imperial Troop Transport.  All we really need for figures/toys is IG-11, Greef Karga, and the Moff’s special folding TIE Fighter.  Having a small Cantina Environment would be a phenomenal addition to the line.

So this is a really cool looking trooper figure based on his brief, but memorable scene. I give it a 9/10.  Rocker ankles and separate accessories would make this pretty much perfect.  Hopefully Walmart stores carry enough of these for plenty of casual collectors to pick one up.  In the meantime, it’s still available for pre-order using our sponsored links.
