In case you missed it, a trio of Vintage Collection Target exclusives were announced yesterday evening. They are Koska Reeves, Axe Woves and Migs Mayfeld (Morak). You can see the press photos HERE. In Chapter 11 of The Mandalorian season 2: The Heiress, Bo-Katan Kryze makes her live action debut and is accompanies by a fellow pair of Mandalorians (at least one of which is a fellow Nite Owl).
Bo-Katan has already been released earlier this year courtesy of the amazing VC226 - Bo-Katan Kryze figure. With the announcement of Koska Reeves and Axe Woves, her trio of compadres from Chapter 11 will be realized later this year. I personally find this very gratifying as a collector. Completing crews is a vital part of the world building scale, and it's torturous when that process evolves over a protracted period of time. The reason isn't strictly due to collector impatience. Action figure technology is constantly evolving, and when a subset spans a decade or more, there can become an aesthetic incongruity between the newer and older figures. You need to look no further than your cantina display. Labria looks like a cartoon character next to Ponda Baba.
This is why we, along with a lot of other collectors, have always been pining for the big ol' box o' figures concept. Even if the figures from that subset or crew age, they age together, and you don't run this risk of some figures looking out of place. It's not just a sculpting or articulation issue. Older figures with traditional paint apps on the head sculpt are starting to stick out compared to newer figures made with Photo Real technology. The wheels of action figure technology turn quickly, which leads to yet another issue with long-simmering crews. Hasbro logically works front to back. The most prominent characters get made first, and the deep backgrounders get made last (if they get made at all). If there have been leaps in technology over that time, the less important figures become objectively better than their more important counterparts in the crew.
I know that Hasbro is concerned about overwhelming the line with too many figures form the same specific source at the sacrifice of diversity, but stringing things out too much is frustrating. I know themed waves are not going to return, but mini-themes within waves would be helpful. Of course asking for two cantina aliens or skiff guards in the same wave is probably a bridge too far with all the media being pumped out.
