I need to start off with the preface that this article is in no way vouching for the commercial viability of what is being proposed. I have no idea. This is just what my personal HasLab dream project would be. The following comment by Duke Skyfarter HERE was my inspiration for today’s article:
HASLAB project idea... how about a group of less popular characters from either Mos Eisley or Jabba's Palace? Say $500 worth of characters that wouldn't do well individually but probably would be a very popular HASLAB? Say 20 in total, hell, even 15 would be great! Please Hasbro!
So, I don't want to be pigeon-holed into choosing either Cantina or Jabba's palace characters. I want them both, and I want them now. I honestly can't stand building scenes piecemeal. It's torture. I want as much context as possible at once. We're well over a decade trying to populate our Prisoner Skiffs with super articulated figures and we're still not done yet (grumble grumble grumble). I'm tired of this once every Summer Olympics nonsense. I want a bunch of figures in a box, and that brings me to my first point. These don't need to be carded. World building figures are meant to be opened. A perfect stretch goal would be to include a second carded version of some of the figures.
My second point is that you will notice that my list is heavily populated with, but not exclusively, humans. That's because "boring background human" is usually considered retail poison. Even the frequently requested Willrow Hood pegwarmed mightily. I don't think we will ever see another human backgrounder released in the main line, but they are critical to completing so many scenes. To me "dream project" means items that traditional retail won't touch. This defines human backgrounders and other deep backgrounders. So yes, Randy, I very much want Yotts Oren, but I think he could sneak into a multi-pack at some point. He doesn't need HasLab to get realized, in my opinion. The same goes for the Tonnika Sisters and Arleil Schous.
These are not necessarily my most wanted figures from these scenes. They're the figures that I think need HasLab to get made:
I suspect the price of the recently announced Boba Fett (Morak) is what we can expect to pay for a low production volume figure. Given that HasLab is probably even lower volume than a retailer exclusive, I'd estimate this set at between $300 and $350. Maybe some value added environment pieces could be added in lieu of the individual cards. I personally couldn't hand over my money fast enough
