The inaugural wave of the 30th Anniversary Collection finally delivered an acceptable version of the Super Battle Droid that we were all waiting for despite the fact that Super Battle Droids are stupid.  We look at the 2007 offering for today’s Throwback Review.

One of my favorite events of the year is fast approaching.  The New England Super Megafest Comic Con will be taking place November 22nd and 23rd at the Sheraton hotel in Framingham, MA.  Among the many notable celebrity guest are Jake Lloyd, Yavin Medal Bearer Nick Joseph, and Star Wars Galaxy artist Kevin Liell.  In addition Toys Hunters Jordan & Steve will be there whom I will be harassing for vintage Kenner goodness.  I can’t possibly list all the happenings here, so please click through to the Super Megafest web site.

The formula is simple.  You take some World War II style army fatigues, add a blast helmet and a staff, and the Rebel Honor Guard is born.  Despite this simplicity, Hasbro managed to punt away what could have been another cornerstone in the 30th Anniversary Collection greatness.  Click through for the Throwback Review of 2007’s Rebel Honor Guard.

I remember when I used to get excited this time of year when the toy section at Walmart would break out of its boundaries into overflow sections in the garden department and other areas of the store.  We received a report of the Hero Series Falcon hitting a central Massachusetts Walmart.  Sadly this overflow section has a lot of stuff, but nothing for me.  Click through for the full image.

Some of the highest collecting highs we experience in the last handful of years came during the 30th Anniversary Collection which seemed to be bursting with innovation in so many areas.  No greater example is this Jango Fett figure which manages to be fresh and exciting despite featuring a character in near constant rotation.

At yesterday’s Autism Speaks Walk in Waterford, CT, my friend John Anthony not only got to meet Captain Rex, but he was allowed the rare honor of holding his blaster.  Click through for the full sized image.

The march of epic 30th Anniversary Collecton accessories continues with the Tatooine Luke Skywalker figure.  The figure itself is largely a dud, but who cares?  The moisture vaporator is the reason you need this figure.

A new Neflix like service called Pley allows you to rent LEGO sets for a monthly fee.  The concept is that the fun of LEGOs is the building and not the keeping, which I can’t argue against.  Each set is sanitized to FDA restaurant standards prior to shipping.  The service is tiered so you can rent small ($15/month), medium ($25/month) or large sets ($39/month).  Interesting concept.

The Expanded Universe wave of the 30th Anniversary Collection featured three figures sourced from the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars micro-series.  You would have to be a pretty good negotiator to convince me that the Yoda & Kybuck figure that we review today is not far and away the most impressive of the three.

Walmart stores are celebrating the launch of the Star Wars Rebels series with a special product displays, but not in the action figure aisle.  This four-way product display is featured near the cash registers.  Click through for the details.

For today’s Throwback Review, we return to 2007’s interesting repaint wave and look at a figure that I really like despite not giving two squats about the character (or even really knowing who he is).  Click through to check out our review of Pax Bonkik.

I really didn’t want review this figure today. I wanted to keep reviewing figures that I like, but I quickly realized if I didn’t start slotting in some of the 30th Anniversary Collection misses that we’d have a traffic killing run of boring figures towards the end.  So without further delay, here’s 2007’s unfortunate Death Star Trooper.

Facebook reader Stephane D. messaged us to say that Rebels figures were found in Austria.  While the United States continues to wait for the first sighting, it’s good to see that some areas are getting these. Click through for the full sized image.

Update:  I had a true Dumb & Dumber moment when I originally posted this.  I wrote Australia when I should have written Austria.  Put another shrimp on the barbie!
