Turkish Star Wars Restored to 2K Resolution

Posted by Bret on 04/25/18 at 11:25 AM Category: Star Wars Misc
In our original look, we learned how the film came to be in 1982, and how In July of 2016, the only known 35 mm print was tracked down and purchased by Ed Glaser, of cult-movie company Neon Harbor. At the time, Glaser promised a restoration of the film. It seems he is delivering on his promise. In a press release from Neon Harbor:

A brand new 2K scan of the bizarre 1982 Turkish cult film The Man Who Saves the World, best known to fans as the Turkish Star Wars, will have its world premiere simultaneously at The Cinema Museum in London and the CCA in Glasgow on Friday, May 4 — Star Wars Day.

The plot of the original film is summarized this way:

The story of The Man Who Saves the World revolves around two Turkish space pilots who crash-land on a desert planet enslaved by an evil wizard. Memorable sequences involve the heroes battling robots inspired by Battlestar Galactica and Forbidden Planet — plus mummies, skeletons, and multi-colored yetis. Another sees them in starfighter “cockpits,” wearing motorcycle helmets, as footage from the Star Wars Death Star battle is projected behind them.

Gizmodo has some details on this development. Find out more about the history of the film here.

Again, here is the short documentary from Neon Harbor explaining the background of this story and how the restoration project came to be. As I said previously, even without any sound the video is totally worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
