Why Waiting Until All Tiers Are Unlocked To Back Will Cost Us All

First off, if you're waiting until all three figures are unlocked to back the Ghost, just stop it. If you truly want the Ghost and all four figures, back it right now. All the tiers are going to unlock before the campaign ends at 11:59 PM on September 6th. By waiting, you're depriving Hasbro of a true estimate of demand, which could potentially hurt all of us (even the ones who backed on day one). Right now, the Ghost is following a near identical trajectory to the G.I. Joe Dragonfly HasLab which just recently ended, so let's look into that a little deeper.

Like the Ghost, the Dragonfly met its minimum funding goal very early on. The only question for the Dragonfly was if the three tiers would unlock which came at 13,000, 16,000 and 19,000 backers. As with the Ghost, I was confident that all three would easily unlock, but also like the Ghost, the Dragonfly limped along during the typical mid-crowdfunding lull. I backed the Dragonfly. I'm almost becoming a full-on G.I. Joe Classified fan, but there's another article coming as to why I can't fully commit.

The missus kept saying that she didn't think all the tiers would unlock, to which I would repeatedly reply, "pshhh, it's going to 25,000.” I kept repeating this even as we approached the final 3-day "FOMO" period with only the first tier unlocked. I was close in my analysis. The final number for the Dragonfly landed at 24,764 (after the campaign went into a brief overtime period).

So why does this matter? The Dragonfly campaign shattered the the final tier unlock of 19,000. It shattered it by such a huge amount that Hasbro could have added a bonus tier as they have done with campaigns that exceed the final tier early on. The Razor Crest and G.I. Joe Skystriker both added bonus offerings, but the Dragonfly did not. Why? Because those extra backers came too late in the campaign. There is no value for Hasbro to add extra tiers if there isn't sufficient time to market them.

Hasbro needs to know NOW how many people will back the Ghost will all four figures unlocked, and not 24 hours before the campaign ends. If you back now, and by some miracle the Ghost falls short of 17,000 backers, you can cancel your order. There is absolutely no downside to backing today, even if it's on the condition that all three tiers are unlocked, but there is huge potential upside. Do you need more convincing? The part that really kills me about these articles is that I DON'T EVEN WANT THE GHOST! My dream HasLab is the White Witch with (wait for it) Retro versions of the crew on replica Droids cards.
