Poor sales of Star Wars toys in 1985 cost the universe a great many things it deserved. We were deprived of needed things, like the first ever Grand Moff Tarkin figure and Blockade Runner. We were deprived of kit-bashed weirdness, like the Mongo Beefhead Tribesman and the Imperial AT-IC. We were deprived of the G.I. Joe-esque Imperial Outpost. That last one really hurts.
Those items are related to the mainline, which was Power of the Force at the time. The Droids and Ewoks lines also suffered canceled items due to poor sales. One of those items was the White Witch vehicle. The White Witch is a Mobquet C/L-82 landspeeder that Thall Joben and Jord Dusat modified for racing:
The aforementioned Power of the Force products were mostly just ideas on a page except for the kit-bashable ones. What makes the story of Kenner's White Witch a little more bitter than the rest of the unproduced items is that it got pretty far along before falling under the ax. Packaging art was developed as can be seen HERE. A fairly well-along production-ready prototype was also created, as can be seen HERE.
But this sad tale has a bit of a silver lining. The collector di tutti collectors, Gus Lopez, located and secured the actual White Witch prototype a few years ago:
Update: In a pretty amazing coincidence, our friends @SWTVC on Instagram posted about the White Witch today too. Click HERE to go to the post on IG and give them a follow if you don't already:
