Though this was a single reveal yesterday, I'm going to break it down into four reactions: one for the entire set, and one each for the three figures. There are things I want to say about the whole, as well as the discreet pieces. Here we go.
The Set
In order to be able to publish these reveals, for which we are eternally grateful, we get the assets the day before, and they remain under embargo until the prescribed publication time. I was so excited when this came in that I had to tell someone, but the only person I could legally tell was Mr. Nomadcout. Big whoop. That guy is a drip. Then the shock-excitement wore off a little, and I had to reflect on the price. There's no two ways about it. The price sucks. $17 per figure is a bitter pill, but Hasbro might as well start charging $20/figure because it's not going to slow me down at all from purchasing this set. I'm debating between getting 3 or 4 (assuming I can). If virility of the announcement is any indication, this is going to be a quick seller.
Finally, this isn't related to the set itself, but the press release does not have a direct link to the product, so this is going to add extra stress. Amazon items aren't indexed right away, so the search engine doesn't help. Per the press release, we're directed to the official site, but they have been hit and miss with updating the product portal. It will be a fun day tomorrow.
Purge Trooper (Phase II Armor)
This is the star of the 3-pack for me. We've all been getting jealous of all the Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi reveals lately, but the Purge Trooper was the one that irritated me the most. Not only did I want the new army builder, but it seemed easy for Hasbro to do having already released the Gaming Greats Purge Trooper. This is the one that got the fist pump out of me, but once again reality set it. I really wish I could army build this figure without also buying $34 worth of other figures I do not want to army build.
Ben Kenobi (Tibidon Station)
This is the garb that Ben wears for almost the entirety of the first episode. Tibidon Station is the sand whale washing facility where Obi-Wan worked during his exile. This is a repaint of the main line Wandering Jedi version, but it's a completely valid repaint. This is the second most exciting part of this 3-pack for me. Being specific to one episode, it would have been a waste to have this release take up a slot in the main line, so I'm okay with it being an exclusive. I really like the unique accessories like the shawl and messenger bag. Because of that, I won't mind opening a second of these to display with different load outs.
Teeka
Meh. I've got a lot of Jawas. I'm assuming that this is a repaint of VC203 - Offworld Jawa (Arvala-7), which itself was a repaint of the short Jawa from the Black Series 3.75" #20 - Jawas minus the hard plastic skirt. That figure doesn't have any articulation in the legs. So if paying $17 per figure is a little tough to take, paying it for a half figure with limited articulation is brutal. The good thing is that this figure is an instant companion piece to the accompanying Tibidon Station Ben. And that's all I'm going to say about that.
