We have been invited by Jedi Temple Archives to be part of the panel for their “A Digested Look at The Vintage Collection” special report alongside many other fan sites to rank what figures from this collection are the absolute cream of the crop. We also are joined by three special guests from the Hasbro Star Wars team which makes this an unprecedented event. See what figures made the final ranking and compare the panel’s picks and how they differ next to the Hasbro team’s choices. The Vintage Collection Slave I is now listed on Amazon for $70.36 down from $99.99. If you didn’t order before, now is the time. If you’re like me and pre-ordered, you need to check your order status. In a first for me on Amazon, my pre-order price did not automatically adjust in accordance with their pre-order price guarantee. But after a polite two minute chat with Amazon customer service, I received a price adjustment.
Update: Now it’s down to a normal American price of $69.99.
Volkerc continues to break news left and right. I honestly forgot this was coming in the Vintage Collection. This is getting expensive.

I’m still licking my wounds about the Vintage Collection ending (for now) sooner than I would have hoped. I can’t let go. It’s so…incomplete.

I should have posted this a few days ago, but I really enjoy not doing stuff (as do my collaborators here apparently). Anyway, Jedi Temple Archives posted their annual Vintage versus Modern report comparing vintage Kenner figures to their modern analogs (if they exist) and detailing which ones just aint good enough yet. It’s a great read, so click through to check it out if you haven’t already.
Some of their choices are (nerd) controversial, so you may have a bone or two to pick with them which makes it all the more fun.
Assuming the Mayans are wrong (or more accurately the crack pots interpreting the Mayan calendar are wrong), you will be able pick up figures from the “middle” waves of 2012 at retail starting in February of 2013. I’m assuming this is brick and mortar retail otherwise this isn’t really news.
For those of you missing out on Ponba Baba, the big news is that…you’re still going to be missing out on Ponda Baba. But take heart! Bom Vimdin gets his 5th crack at a retail assortment which is good news for all of you who missed this figure when it was selling for $1 on Amazon (I kid you not). Also, thankfully that icky Bastila Shan figure isn’t part of this “best of the best” lineup. The last thing we need is more of that awesome and expensive figure on the market.
You may be thinking that my cynical remarks are out of line and that we should be thankful for Hasbro getting these figures to stores, and truth be told getting these cases out to retail is admirable. But what I can’t abide is the spin making it seem like this is an all-star assortment of figures in response to fan demand. Just state what this is. Hasbro negotiated with their retail partners to take some of the back stock, which again is commendable. But that back stock has an ounce or two of that same questionable case assortment issues. As Judge Constance Harm once said, don’t spit on my cupcake and call it frosting (okay that really is too harsh).

In a sign that we’re inching closer to Wave 16’s arrival, an Ebay seller from California has some of the figures from the online only wave in stock for $24.99 with free shipping.
If you’ve been following the reports, wave 16 (the online only wave) is getting close and closer, and now it appears on Ebay (from Singapore). If you have to have it NOW, $59.90 + $9.90 shipping will get the Emperor’s Royal Guard to your door. Click here to view the seller’s Vintage Collection offerings.
