Yesterday we wrapped up our coverage of figures and toys from The Force Unleashed video game. The magnitude of offerings was representative of the glorious golden age, and helps bring in to focus the current state of the hobby, and what may be considered the recent de-evolution of Star Wars 3.75” action figure collecting.
A generation of our greatest scientists have spent two decades puzzling over the deeper meaning of The Phantom Menace, and yet some answers still elude us…
1999: “Episode I is the worst Star Wars movie ever!”
2002: “Not so much.”
2019: “Everybody loves The Phantom Menace!”
We’re about to take a break from our run of The Phantom Menace Vintage Collection figure reviews. Not because we’re out of figures, but because we’re don’t have the carded samples yet. For the sake of this site, it’s probably not the worst thing that happened. The trends are unkind to Episode I.
When I was a kid, I got a Kenner Stormtrooper as a present for one of my birthdays. But I was pretty disappointed because I already had a stormtrooper. My dad told me that it would be fun to have more than one because there were tons of them in the movie, and I could have a whole army of bad guys for Luke to fight. That was my first experience with army building. Today, many collectors get multiples of troop figures to set up awesome shelf displays. Prepare to rethink your life, and your definition of “army-building”...
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion unless your opinion is that 2008’s Legacy Collection Obi-Wan Kenobi is definitive. If you think that, you’re some sort of pathetic loser. No offense.
Now that we’ve investigated Red Squadron, we’re going to take a comprehensive look at Gold Squadron.
We continue our look at the Rebel combatants at Yavin, with a dive into the figures and toys of Red Squadron…
Yesterday, we were familiarized with the Alliance starfighter squadrons that participated in the Battle of Yavin. Today, we’ll look at the men and women who flew into battle for Red Squadron…
Fresh on the heels of our Battle of Yavin Missing in Action Figure feature a few days ago, we’re going to take a closer look at the Alliance pilots, droids, and ships that participated in the Battle of Yavin. We’ll also survey the figures and toys that represent these characters, as well as the ones we are missing.
Hey, did you love The Last Jedi? Did you think it was (for the most part) a wonderful film that overturned expectations and yet still somehow remained true to the core of the Star Wars story? What about you? Yes, you over there; did you absolutely hate The Last Jedi? Did you find its depiction of Luke revolting and horrifying? Good news, everyone! You’re both right!
Did you grow up with the vintage Kenner line? It really was an amazing time to be a kid. The downside of having the good fortune of living through the golden age of toys is that you also suffered through a 10-year Star Wars toy drought. But did that stop you from collecting? Of course not. So today we look at some of the things you may have turned your collectorism toward during those dark times.
For as long as I have been in this hobby, which is exactly how long this hobby has existed, scalpers have been the villain. But do we have it wrong? Could scalpers actually be good for the hobby? Did you raise your voice in an extremely puzzled fashion at the end of that question? No? Well, you were supposed to. Here, I’ll give you a second chance. Could scalpers actually be good for the hobby? Hit the jump for yet another hot Bantha take (yeah, I don’t like the sound of that either).
Ladies and Gentlemen. It’s with a heavy heart I am here to report that Carrie Fisher has died after her heart attack on the 23rd.
