We’ve been meaning to resurrect our collections features and having hit the half way point of my 12 back collection this past weekend, I thought I’d start it back up with this mini-milestone. In 2012 after watching all of our savings methods tread water or worse, my wife and I made the decision to invest in a set of 12 back figures. Some may laugh at that, but so far we’ve done well. I set some very stringent requirements for the collection. All of the cards had to be unpunched and free of price stickers. All of the figures had to be AFA graded and all of the sub grades had to be at least an 85 and we gave a big preference to 12 Back-A figures if we could.
The collection hasn’t been fast in forming. It’s been a journey. 36 year old figures in the condition I described don’t hit the market with great frequency. We’ve missed out on a few auctions as the prices seemed to push too far past the current market at the end. We hope to never have to “cash in” on these figures, but there has been no better way for a life long Star Wars collector to “invest”.
