Toys R Us Liquidation Is Depressing For Another Reason

The Toys R Us Star Wars liquidation has hit 50% in many locations. That is not insignificant. Despite this, this particular location is still sitting on a glut of product stretching all the way back to 2015. I feel a strong signal is being sent here, but I'm not sure what the statement is. Is it a statement about the media, which has been successful, but might not be instilling a collecting passion? Is it a statement about Hasbro's recent kid-focus with the mainline? Is it a combination of the two?

I won't presume to provide a take away here. All I know is that I find this mildly depressing. It feels line a general "meh" attitude is enveloping the merchandising side of Star Wars.
