Toys R Us Has New Class II Vehicles

Posted by Chris on 07/08/13 at 12:33 PM Category: Toys R Us

I closely compared the packages of the Vintage Collection Obi-Wan’s Starfighter and the 2013 Class II Obi-Wan’s Starfighter. With the caveat that I didn’t open the packages to confirm, my conclusion is that the 2013 offering is a new smaller mold as we saw with the Class II vehicles in 2013.  First, the depth of the 2013 package is at least 20% smaller than the depth of the Vintage Collection package.  Second, the 2013 version weighs about half as much as the Vintage Collection package. This is immediately noticeable.  Lastly, even though the product picture on the Vintage Collection package is stylized, I closely compared the product shots on the two boxes.  At first blush they appear the same, but there are definite differences in the details.  The tooling around the cockpit latch is very different on the two products.

So unless the product photo on the 2013 box does not match the product in the box and the differences in the weights is due to a massive reduction in packaging material, the 2013 product is a newly tooled toy.
