For a company that proselytized to "kill the past" in its latest episodic chapter, they seem intent on plumbing every dark recess of Star Wars' past for reference. In this case, it involves drawing inspiration from Boba's Fett's animated debut in the Holiday Special for the lead character's weapon in The Mandalorian.
I don't mind this at all. I'm a sucker for fan service. And I don't hate the Holiday Special. I watch it every now and again, and I'm not sure I do so ironically.
The Holiday Special lives on thanks to the magic of the internet (just Google it, folks). But you can see the blaster right here. Favreau's is much fancier and more detailed, but it's clearly a spiritual successor to [Boba Fett's weapon in the Holiday Special].
