Once there was a time when Sith Lords were aplenty. They roamed the galaxy, threatened the Old Republic, and said, "Ni!" at will to old ladies. Of course, all that changed when the slate was wiped clean. After that we were left with only those whose names had been uttered in film or TV episodes: Darth Bane, Darth Plagueis, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus, and Darth Vader. Recently though, readers of Star Wars funnybooks (some folks call them graphic novels, I call it a funnybook; mmm hmmm) have been treated to some new names that can be added to that nefarious list. Readers of Star Wars Annual #4 (published 5/23/18) were indirectly introduced to Darth Atrius when his lightsabers came to be in the possession of Sana Starros. More recently, in Darth Vader (second series) issue #22 we are introduced to not one, but two new Sith Lords from long ago; and one of them is of the female type. Her name is Shaa. Her turn-offs are Jedi, rainy days, and democracy. Her turn-ons include crushing hope, the color red, and UNLIMITED POW-AH! We learn of Shaa by way of the story of her apprentice Momin; and she is the first female Sith Lord (Lady) to be brought into the new canon. I don’t want to really get into the storyline in question, which is basically House Hunters: Mustafar Edition, because I don’t want to spoil it and I haven’t actually read it yet. Nevertheless, this is another titillating peek into what constitutes the distant past of the Old Republic in the new canon. I for one am thirsty for information on this era and hope we see a full length story taking place there soon.
Darth Vader (II) issue 22 was published October 17, 2018. The trade paperback which collects this and other issues, Darth Vader Volume 4: Fortress Vader, is available for pre order now at our sponsor, Amazon.
One bit of trivia for regular comic readers: Remember the Lando mini-series also written by Charles Soule? Remember the Sith mask that was on board Palpatine’s ship? It belonged to Momin.
