According to The Hollywood Reporter, Quentin Tarantino is working with J.J. Abrams to bring in a team of writers for development of a new Star Trek film.
Paramount had previously announced a 4th movie in the re-booted franchise that would star Chris Hemsworth as Jim Kirk's father. Hemsworth had played this role in the opening scene of the 2009 Star Trek film. It remains to be seen if that idea will be saved, scrapped, or if it will be a separate project from the Tarantino concept.
Sounds like this can only be a blast, and something to look forward to. It's mentioned in the THR article, but it was already widely known that Tarantino is a big fan of Star Trek.
