Solo:  Toys We Should Be Able To Own, But Probably Won’t

Four films in two and half years might have left some moviegoers exhausted, but collectors are still waiting for 90% of the characters and outfits from all of these films. As of this writing, we have a total of 16 TBS figures and 12 TVC figures (including those announced for 2019) for all 4 Disney films. What??? 28 figures were pretty much what was launched during Midnight Madness for each of the prequel movies.

With news that Resistance figures will be hitting in early 2019, it would seem that line look is going to replace Solo, just as Solo replaced TLJ, which replaced RO, which replaced TFA. To the point we made recently in our rant about the haphazard line changes, at least things are now predictable and fairly logical with the 5POA line. It's highly unlikely that the Solo line look will continue past wave 4, as we've heard not a peep about anything resembling a wave 5. It's possible that we'll see a few waves of Resistance animated figures blended with figures from other media, until the line changes again late in 2019 for Episode IX. But for all intents and purposes, it seams like the Solo line has come to an end, although this has not been officially confirmed by Hasbro.

Solo was released in May, and just recently has become available on home entertainment media. The toys have been out since April's barely noticeable Wookiee Weekend. The Solo budget line didn't really do much to populate our shelves, even if collectors were willing to settle for 5POA:

Wave 4 is just now being reported found in stores, and of the 22 figures released in the line, Solo is the source for only half. Yep, we got 11 Solo basic figures in 4 total waves over the course of 6+ months. However, we did get 23 pack-in and multi-pack figures (with a 24th on the way, if we're still getting that Kessel cardboard playset). That actually isn't too bad, although you can take at least 9 of those as being repacks/slight repaints of existing figures.

But that's okay, right? Because the collector line surely came through. Let's take a quick look. Okay, so there were no Solo figures when TVC debuted on Wookiee Weekend. Bad job there. Let's move on to Wave 2, which should have come out a couple of months later. What? Wave 2 and 3 are just now hitting in October? Hm. Fine. Well what do we have there? Han Solo himself. Logical. Good start. What else...Enfys Nest. Neat. Removable helmet, right? No? That is a bummer. Okay, what's next? Range Trooper. Yes, yes, very good. Mimban Trooper. MIA? Well, that's terrible news. Will we ever see it? Maybe? Okay, anyway, what else we got? Nothing at all in 2018? What? Oh great, there's Lando in 2019. Awesome. Anything else? No? Sigh.

We got 3 figures, with 2 potentially on the way. And of course, all 5 of those were already made in 5POA, which definitely takes away a bit of the thunder. Terrible, really. Just...terrible.

Of course those are just some of the more noticeable characters, or ones with speaking lines. There are tons of troops, aliens, and droids that populate Corellia, Mimban, Vandor, Kessel, and Savareen, including groups like The Cloud Riders, the White Worms, and the Kessel prisoners.

We've said it numerous times. The health of 3.75 is predicated on a wide variety of figures and toys being available that can interact and be displayed with each other. We just reviewed the AT-DT, which is a decent toy, but other than a couple of 5POA figures, the Mimban Stormtrooper (MIA) is the only super-articulated figure that goes with it. The line desperately needs MORE.
