The website MovieWeb has posted a rumor report surrounding Episode IX HERE. Warning, don't click through if you're trying to avoid spoilers. The article contains some high level plot points. Our biggest takeaway from the article is Lucas' potential involvement. MoveWeb writes:
The rumor is that Disney and Lucasfilm brought in George Lucas to consult on the script. ... Now, it's rumored that he's working alongside J.J. Abrams to make sure they get this one perfect.
I've said many times that, while I feel the Prequel Trilogy movies fail as complete films, the overall plot of the trilogy is brilliant, and some of the best on-screen Star Wars is contained therein. One of my minor critiques of the ST is too much of what happens is unearned by the writers. Another way of saying that is that the characters lack proper motivation to do what they do; other than servicing the plot that is. This is an unfortunate side affect of the blistering pace of the trilogy films. (Disney: Go back to releasing every three years!) One thing Lucas had completely nailed is creating characters with clear reasons for why they do what they do.
