FOMO = Fear of missing out.
I still can't believe this picture.
I've always considered 4,000 backers as a psychological milestone in this campaign. In fact, in internal conversations I've said that if the campaign hits 4,000 by midnight on 3/31, I thought it had a chance based on the possibility of a 1,000 backer (20%) surge in the last three days. Something about that "last 1,000" makes this start to feel real. Prior to that, it was just an idea.
As you know, we hit that 4,000 mark well ahead of my hypothetical line in the sand. Around 8 O'clock ET last night we broke that barrier. By the time this article is posted we will likely have had 200 new backers since that point in well under 24 hrs. This is already one of the best stretches of the campaign. Unlike previous bursts (initial surge and the "Yak Face" surge), there is no definitive reason for this recent surge other than crossing that "last 1,000" psychological barrier, and FOMO setting in.
In discussions with my friend Paul from Jedi Temple Archives this morning, we're both seeing the signs of this FOMO phenomenon. People who were on the fence now are afraid of being on the outside looking in on one of the most iconic Star Wars toy in history. Nothing hurts a collector's pride more than that. You'll have to make excuses that you didn't want it anyway because it's too big. You'd be like your dateless friend in high school who insisted his single status was because he didn't want to be tied down.
At this point, I'm less worried about the campaign reaching its goal than I am about something glitching my initial order. Yes, I'm suffering FOMO even though I already backed. I will be backing at least one more barge next week, and it's partially for FOMO reasons. Several of our forum members share the same story about seeing the Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma comic pack (and other end of Legacy rarities), but passing on them. We didn't appreciate at the time that we were staring at modern holy grail collectibles.
Based on the information shared by Hasbro, we know we are getting TWO holy grail collectibles with this campaign in the Sail Barge and POTF Yak Face figure. Don't miss out. There is no downside if you have the funds. It will take some effort, but you can recover from a "regret" purchase of the Sail Barge. If you end up passing on the Sail Barge and regret it, it will haunt you forever.
