Girls toys (Disney Princess and Frozen) were huge reasons for Hasbro’s success this year, with sales rising 52% over last year.
However, Disney was helped by the Star Wars brand as well. Those of us 3.75” loyalists might be surprised that the toy line is so healthy given the near complete absence of collector driven offerings. We are left to wonder if the success is mostly due to the consistent media support (TFA, Rebels, Rogue One, Battlefront 2), and that Hasbro may have left a lot of profit on the field by nearly abandoning the core collector. It would seem, given the recent happy Vintage Collection news, that Hasbro does indeed see an opportunity to lay claim to our disposable income…
Interesting note from the article, “Hasbro is actually going to stop reporting sales by gender starting in the first quarter.” Bravo, Hasbro!
