Figures Of The Barge - Skiff
This week we looked at the 23 unique figures that will properly accessorize your Khetanna Sail Barge. In Parts One and Two we looked at figures that were below deck, while Part Three covered figures that battled on the deck. Now we're going to round out the scene with figures that were actually not on board the Khetanna at all. An additional 10 unique figures (plus a duplicate Luke) should be on the two Bantha-II Cargo Skiffs that circled the Pit of Carkoon.
Prisoner Skiff
Amazing how Lucas tried to carefully replicate our figure shot and get it into the film.
The Prisoner Skiff has 7 figures that you can place on it, but it's missing two to complete the subset.
We start with VC87 Luke Skywalker (Lightsaber Construction). Chris already used this figure for the sail barge deck slaughter, but you may prefer that it exists on the prisoner skiff, since by the time Luke makes it to the deck of the barge, he's already murdered several of the figures that you'd otherwise want to display. Alternatively, you'd want two Lukes: one for the skiff and one for the barge, in order to create a composite diorama. Then we've got Han Solo. I've chosen the TSC 002 version, mostly because I couldn't find my TBS (Phase II) version. The TBS version has better articulation, but I do feel that the TSC version is a better representation of this moment. He's got dirt on his shirt (from the palace floor) and his sleeves are not rolled up when he's on the skiff. I know the Chewbacca figure here is not the correct one. Here you see the Legacy Collection BD3 figure, from the deleted scene after the Battle of Carkoon where Chewie has a bandage protecting the leg wound he sustained during the battle. But I like the look of Chewbacca with the disheveled, wind-blown hair. The bandage is hidden pretty well behind Han anyway, so I'm fine with it. If you prefer a different Chewbacca, then take your pick from the 619 versions floating out there. To round out the heroes, we have VC89 Lando Calrissian (Sandstorm Outfit), a great figure that works perfectly here.
We've got 3 bad guys as well, and all 3 of them are awesome figures. VC48 Weequay Skiffmaster, VC107 Weequay Skiff Guard, and VC56 Kithaba are all tremendous figures, and are must haves for the prisoner skiff. Note that for whatever reason, the Skiffmaster does not wield his vibroblade on the skiff. He probably wished he had it once Madman Luke goes berserk, although it wouldn't have stopped Luke's glowing green peacemaker with compass in the hilt and the thing that tells time. The skiff driver, Vedain, and sarlacc fodder, Velken Tezeri, are as yet unproduced, but would round out the full contingent.
Again, Lucas should be commended for how well he brought the figure shot below to life for the film.
These clowns don't know it yet, but they're about to experience Skywalker-style justice.
For the second skiff, there were 8 characters on board in the film. 4 of them exist in figure form. Two are great. The other two? Seen better days, Lois. Seen better days. Brock Starsher, who moonlighted as quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams back in the day, is a TBS figure and, along with VC99 Nikto (Skiff Guard), represent two awesome figures for this skiff. Hasbro also has produced a Barada figure, but it is in desperate need of an update. It was most recently repainted as TSC 004. Also existing is Pote Snitkin. He was released but a single time, as an exclusive, last century in the POTF2 Freeze Frame line. I have to say, even after some 20 years, it's really a pretty good sculpt. The figure is big, has a lot of detail, and a face not even a mother could love. Hasbro could still do much better today, of course, so a remake would be appreciated, although I would take the missing skiff guards first, and save this for last. The real problem with Mr. Snitkin is actually not his fault. The skiffs are not the right scale or proportion, so his large frame doesn't really fit in the driver's space. I crammed him in there for the purposes of the photo, but he hated every second of it. So Hasbro has 2 skiffs, but only one has a driver, and that guy can't really fit behind the controls. This needs to be addressed ASAP. Hasbro also needs to make 3 other figures to round out the crew of the second skiff.
So Now you have all of the existing figures necessary for a complete Sail Barge display. Here are the new 10 unique figures (plus the duplicate Luke) added for two Skiff contingents:
Vintage Collection Luke Skywalker (Lightsaber Construction) (VC87)
The Saga Collection 002 Han Solo in Carbonite
Legacy Collection BD3 Chewbacca
Vintage Collection Lando Calrissian (Sandstorm) (VC89)
Vintage Collection Weequay Skiffmaster (VC48)
Vintage Collection Weequay (Skiff Guard) (VC107)
Vintage Collection Kithaba (VC56)
The Black Series Jabba's Skiff Guard (#27) - a.k.a. Brock Starsher
Nikto (Skiff Guard) (VC99)
The Saga Collection 004 Barada
Power of the Force 2 Pote Snitkin.
Not counting the duplicate Luke, this brings the total to 33 UNIQUE FIGURES that belong in the scene based on canon sources. You could add the duplicate Luke as well as Gamorrean Guards, jawas, prisoner Leias, Boba Fetts, Artoos, etc., to flesh out the many vignettes that occur over the course of the entire scene.
And here's a bonus look at that lovely class photo for the Battle of the Pit of Carkoon:
