Yesterday was huge because after heading towards a grim ending, the backer trajectory crossed above the straight line average, and it did so with a last second Hail Mary right before midnight. This is a huge development, and in our eyes, signals that the Sail Barge is locked in to become a reality in a few short hours.
How did this astounding move happen?
Check out how pitiful the daily count was before our Yak Face idea became official...
On March 2nd, we at Bantha Skull had already made our pitch to Hasbro to add in a Canadian POTF carded Yak Face figure to sweeten the pot and help push the Barge to the goal. We then slowly and methodically passed 2500 backers a little over a week later. Disturbingly, only a couple of days after that, we hit the halfway point of the campaign and simultaneously the daily backer rate had fallen below the straight line average necessary for success. This was alarming, and we all knew that without something to inject much-needed excitement into the faltering campaign, we were headed for disaster. But then Hasbro jumped on our idea for the carded POTF Yak Face.* Since then, the campaign has taken off. The trajectory of backers angled sharply northward, and towards the goal.
While my colleague Chris and I are "very fah apaht" on the impact of FOMO at this point in the campaign, we agree that Bantha Skull's* Yak Face offer idea kicked fans in the tushie and shocked them into action, and people were jumping into the fray in droves. We also agree that some people have been holding off until the last few days in an attempt to eliminate any credit card or PayPal shenanigans. Still others have been procrastinating, well, just because that's what people do.
With our* Yak Face offer angling the backer line in the right direction, it looks like this really is going to happen. I'm still nervous about the holiday weekend, but I asked Cris Collinsworth, and he said that yesterday's performance was "remarkable", and that we should be very confident.
*Call us delusional, but we'll go to our graves comfortable in the belief that this happened exactly as we described. You're welcome, everyone. A year from now, thank Bantha Skull when you're opening your Hasbro Khetanna and placing it on your shelf.
