Good day people of Bantha Skull.
I know it’s been a while, and for that I’m sorry. You know how Dr. Malcom said ‘life uh…finds a way’? Well, life finds a way of getting in the way of me writing a weekly article. But right now, I am back. I couldn’t have chosen a better time either. This past Tuesday, Marvel Studio made an announcement. It wasn’t much really. Just their plans for the NEXT FIVE YEARS!
I’m not going to waste any time jumping in to this….so hold on to your butts. Yeah, that’s two Jurassic Park quotes in one article.
We all know the next two Marvel movies to come out. Avengers Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, both in 2015. After that We will have Captain America: Civil War(May 6, 2016). How they will pull off that story line is anyone’s guess. Some think it’ll be about who the Avengers answer to..if anyone. Seeds of this can be seen in a scene shown at the Marvel announcement event Tuesday. It shows Tony and Steve in a heated discussion that ends with Cap tearing a piece of firewood in half with his bare hands. Intense.

After that, we have Doctor Strange coming at us (November 4, 2016). No one has been cast yet in the role, but the rumor mill is saying Khan Noonien Holmes is the front runner, and may be announced soon enough. This is a big confirmation of an easter egg from Cap 2 (damn that Sitwell). How the sorcerer supreme will fit in to the current universe is still a mystery…but one thing is for sure, it will truly take the MCU in to a new direction with its mystical nature.
Those are the only two movies in 2016. Up first in 2017 will be Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (May 5, 2017) moved up from the original July date. You’re welcome. Don’t worry though, because we will get the next installment of Thor after that. Thor: Ragnarok (July 28, 2017) proves that sometimes even the most ravenous fan boys can get something right. How these two more cosmic movies will fit in with the other grounded real world films, you’ll have to wait to see. People are wondering if Thor will be replaced by a cyborg (see the Civil War comic story) or if maybe we’ll get to see Beta Ray Bill. After that, we head back to earth for the much rumored, and finally confirmed Black Panther (November 3, 2017). We’ve had seeds of the character thrown at us since Iron Man 2. Chadwick Boseman will be taking on the character, and will first appear in Cap 3. How many movies has he signed on for? The world may never know.
Now we’re moving in to the ‘but is soooooo far away’ category. 2018-2019.
May 2018 will bring us the first part of Avengers: Infinity War. You read right. First part. Shortly after that will be Captain Marvel (July 5, 2018). Yes, it’s the Carol Danvers version. I’m just curious as to which costume she’ll be in (wink wink). After that we will get the somewhat surprising Inhumans movie (November 2, 2018). People are speculating that this will tie in to the Agents of SHIELD TV show somehow. After the Inhumans, we march in to 2019 with part two of Avengers: Infinity War.

Some of you may ask, what the hay is an infinity war? The Infinity War in the comics is when the everyone’s favorite mad Titan, Thanos, collected all the fabled infinity stones (more on them in a minute) and put them all together in the Infinity Gauntlet TO RULE THE UNIVERSE. As expected, our Marvel heroes had a few things to say about that. Back to those stones. No, they are not the same as what your grandfather passed recently. There are five stones total, and we have seen either three or four depending on how they play it. The Tesseract (Captain America, Avengers) was the first we saw which is the space stone. The Aether (Thor: The Dark World) is rumored as the reality stone. The orb (Guardians of the Galaxy) is the power stone. In a feint that I did not see coming, rumors are flying around that the scepter that Loki uses in The Avengers (and seen at the end of Cap 2) is another Infinity store, the mind stone. That makes a lot of sense, seeing as he was controlling peoples minds in The Avengers.

So there is is folks. A whole lot of awesome in one little package. Let the rumors, and speculation fly in the comments. I’m always down for some tin-foil hat chatting.
