Darth Dre’s weekly roundup: SDCC Style

Posted by Dre on 08/02/14 at 02:00 PM Category: Darth Dre’s Off Topic Roundup

Good evening and welcome.  You are reading the maiden entry in the Weekly Round Up.  My goal here is to give you a run down of the other toy and movie/TV news we are interested in.

Last week was SDCC.

There was a lot of news that came from the largest Comic Con in the country.  Lets start with some movie news.

There was some preview footage from the up coming Batman Vs Superman movie.  It gave us the first in motion look at the new Affleck Batman, and a quick glimpse of Supes.  In addition, we got a look at the goddess herself, Wonder Woman...who ended up looking a lot like Xena the Warrior Princess.  I give it an Eh.

Next we have the talk about the elephant in the room.  Avengers Age of Ultron.  A trailer was shown, and it was the biggest thing in the entire Con.  There is no leaked footage out there (dang), but plenty of descriptions.  We see our first in motion shots of Ultron, and hear the great James Spader.  Lots of fighting, especially between the Hulk and Tony in his Hulkbuster armor.  Yeah.  You read that right.  After four on screen appearances, we finally get to see a Hulkbuster armor.  Igor doesn’t count.

There was some storyboard footage from the upcoming Ant-Man movie, with voice work from Paul Rudd, and Micheal Douglas.  This seemed to be well recived as well.

Now for my most favorite part from the entire Con.  The test footage from a possible Deadpool movie.  O.  M.  G.  I couldn’t care less about the Avengers footage while this was out there.  Yeah, it was mostly CGI, but it was motion capped AND voiced by that hunk amongst hunks…Ryan Reynolds.  ( * swoon * )  Sadly the content has been removed from online, but what we saw was…perfect.

Oddly, we didn’t learn much about the upcoming Star Wars movie.  It’s still a long ways out, and we all know of JJ Abrams legendary secrecy, so it’s not unheard of really.  We did see a lot on the upcoming animated show, Rebels.  For what it is, it looks pretty decent.  Not my cup o’ tea, but to each their own.

Check out our coverage on just about every movie out there (give or take a few…) here in the forum.

How about some toy news?

Hasbro put out a large spread for the Marvel Infinites line.  90’s Beast, Bishop, Black Cat, Sandman and Big Time Spidey were the highlights.  Sure they lost some torso articulation, but there are two of the big names off most peoples want lists.  Both Sandman, and Beast will come with running changes.  An all sand look, and the grey fur versions, respective.  We have uploaded the official hi-res images here.  That is not a public post. Shhhh….don’t tell anyone.

The Marvel Legends line had some nice pieces as well.  The Spider Man line gave us looks at some more fan favorites.  2099 Spiderman, and an all new Hobgoblin were tops on the list.  The regular line showed us some of the best and most wanted figures.  Movie versions of Maria Hill (a mostly repainted Black Widow) makes her first appearance.  Nick Fury is back again.  And the coup de grace of it all.  Agent Phil Coulson.  I’m sorry…DIRECTOR Phil Coulson. This wave comes with a build a figure of everyone’s favorite mad titan, Thanos. You can see the official hi-res images here in yet another non-public post.  YOU’D BETTER KEEP MY SECRET!

GI Joe gave us nothing new.  The SDCC Exclusive Danger at the Docks set was a bit easier to get for those who did not attend this year as it was available on the Toys R Us website.  WYay to go.  Too bad they didn’t do that with the Star Wars set.  Keep F5ing people.

Mattel had some new DC Multiverse figures.  We saw Arkham Knights versions of Harley Quinn, Two-Face, and Red Hood.  The Arkham Origins and Arkham City lines give us a great looking Joker, Killer Croc, and Nightwing.

Hey, did you know we love Deadpool here?  Sideshow has announced a 1:6 scale Deadpool coming soon.  Sideshow, I’m sending you a blank check.  Fill in any amount you see fit and send me my figure!

Check out all our news on the other toys lines here in the forums.

That was far from all we saw at Comic Con this year, but if I was to list it all, we would need to buy more server space.  For now, I’ll bid you all farewell, and check in next week for more news from all across the geek globe.

This is Dre, and I’ll see ya in the pit…
