I know I’m stating the obvious here, but a look at Black Series pre-orders shows that the line is absolutely ground to a halt. According to Entertainment Earth’s pre-orders, R5-G19 and Luke Skywalker Wampa Attack are now slated for October delivery. As of Toy Fair this February, that wave was schedule for August. In just five months, the line has managed to get two months behind. Furthermore, wave 4 with the Dagobah training Luke, which shown at NYCC last year, was supposed to be a 2nd quarter release. It is just now seeing fulfillment from e-tail with no reports of brick and mortar sales.
At this rate, the Black Series line is going to rapidly start encroaching on the Episode VII product launch. The new figures shown at San Diego Comic Con listed March 2015 as their release date on the placards. This leads to the presumption that between now and March 2015, we are only going to see six new figures: Episode III Darth Vader, Ree Yees, Brock Starsher, Snowspeeder Wedge, R5-G19 and Wampa Attack Luke. That’s less than one “new” figure per month. With almost no momentum since early 2012, it’s hard to see any substantial future for the collector 3.75” line.
