Bantha Skull Literary Reviews by Jimmy

Posted by Bret on 08/12/18 at 07:05 AM Category: Site News
Hi, I’m Jimmy Griffin. Most of you know me from my award winning* comic reviews here at Bantha Skull. My work here has been lavished with much praise; with many declaring it “adequate” or even “a good review." Some have even gone so far as to describe my articles here as “something that definitely exists.” Of course it’s not just comics. I also reviewed a couple of novels and wrote that thing about Luke in The Last Jedi that was just brilliant (the article, not the movie; also, the movie). Anyway, what you may also have noticed is a peculiar absence of reviews both today and last Sunday. Fear not, this isn’t a permanent state of affairs. Mr. Nomadscout and I have just been doing a little bit of tweaking, and as soon as the meth wears off we’re going to implement some small, but effective, format changes with my reviews. I am totally behind these changes and am in no way being extorted or pressured into going along with them due to the existence or non-existence of a tape that I swear was just a joke and I could have sworn I erased it and besides it’s fake and doesn’t exist anyway.

One thing we are going to be doing is a rating scale. It will be based on a total of 5 possible bantha skulls. Here is a breakdown of how it will apply to comics, novels, and other literature:

  • 5 skulls-perfect. Perfect writing and art (if applicable); the material is a useful and complementary addition to the Star Wars canon. Once you’ve been exposed to it you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.
  • 4 skulls-very good. Writing (and art) are top notch; rarely do you see better than this.
  • 3 skulls-well, that’s just fine. It’s not perfect. It’s fun though, and even if it’s not earth shaking it’s still probably worth your time.
  • 2 skulls-below average. Improve is obviously needed. The material is not compelling or something we really needed in canon. Will appeal to certain people, but most will not care for it.
  • 1 skulls-bad, just not good. There may be some good things you can struggle to say about it, but overall this is a serious mis-step. Avoid it unless you are a radical completist/masochist.
  • 0 skulls-not worth the paper it’s printed on. Does serious harm to the Star Wars universe. Avoid at all costs.

On a serious note, I would like to thank everyone who has been reading my stuff. I really appreciate the comments. I try to work the comments section and communicate with everybody when the articles go live. If you’ve been reading and not commenting, I implore you to chime in sometime. It doesn’t have to be some pithy, brilliant take. Hey, if you like what you’re seeing; if you think I’m doing alright, maybe you just give me one of these:

If everything goes according to plan, we will have my review of Thrawn: Alliances up Tuesday. The following week, my latest comic review should be up on Wednesday which will be our new day for that going forward. Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow!

*Awards you give yourself are just as valid.
