A Big Little Thing We All Missed In The Last Jedi

Cnet has picked up a pretty neat story from Reddit regarding an Easter Egg in The Last Jedi. Cnet writes:

On Sunday, Reddit user egoshoppe posted a GIF comparing Rey's (Daisy Ridley) lightsaber training with Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) final battle with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). While the two characters don't exactly mirror each other's lightsaber moves, their fights are similar enough to start fans buzzing that the parallels could be intentional.

Some people have said that since both Kylo and Rey were trained by Luke, they would naturally have similar styles, but Rey was never trained by Luke to use a saber prior to that scene. We do know that Snoke had linked the minds of Rey and Kylo, so that is one possibility. I personally think this is symbolism showing the commonality between the two characters. They are both weighed down by the past. That is often described as "carrying a boulder.” If you've watched Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays on HBO, he uses that metaphor throughout. Rey fights a literal boulder and Kylo fights his uncle, the symbol of the light and who he perceives as his would be assassin.

One thing is for sure, this is a conscious decision on the part of the choreographers. The “why” remains unanswered so far.
