While contained plasma swords that clash with each other as if they were solids are probably a physical impossibility, sometimes science does catch up with our beloved science fiction. A California start-up company called Ostendo Technologies has spent nine years developing tiny holographic projectors which they claim are almost ready for commercial release. This means smart phones and watches with 3D holographic projections are close to becoming a reality. Of course I know what you’re all thinking: when will Sideshow announce a lifesized R2-D2 that actually projects a holographic Princess Leia.
