While Giant Freakin Robot’s source was unclear on what upcoming project Harrison Ford was on set for, we’re hearing that it was either The Mandalorian season 3 or The Book of Boba Fett. We also hear that Harrison Ford filmed a de-aged Han Solo for the project.
So it looks like we'll be getting an OT era Han Solo via Disney+ similar to the way Luke Skywalker was brought back for the finale of The Mandalorian season 2. This brings up an increasingly annoying point:
We don't have a single definitive OT-era Han Solo figure.
The closest we have to definitive are VC143 - Han Solo (Stormtrooper) and VC136 - Han Solo (Carbonite), but both fall well short of the mark. For Episode IV, the VOTC Han Solo figure stinks out loud (despite what many of you think). Furthermore, the VTSC-based Hoth Han figures are a far cry from modern standards. The VC50 - Bespin Han Solo is aging more rapidly than any figure in history. So much better could be done today. Finally, not enough bad can be said about VC62 - Han Solo (Endor).
Hasbro, now is the time. Getting a new definitive OT-era Han Solo buck into the tooling library has so much opportunity for reuse. I often say that I wouldn't suggest anything to Hasbro that I wouldn't risk my own job over, since that is what we're asking them to do. Not only would I risk my job over the worthiness of some new Han Solo tooling, I wish I could buy stock options in it. I said the same exact things about an updated Boba Fett, and how did that turn out? If you think I make the Boba Fett argument a lot:
We could also make all these same arguments about OT-era Princess Leia figures, but that's a discussion for another day. Also, where did Jason Segel go? I miss him. I Love You Man is a national treasure.
