Once again, let me be clear: I still love this series. I will be champing at the bit next Wednesday to watch Part V as soon as possible. I'm completely sucked in, and hope a season 2 is green lit as soon as possible. But why, Lord, why must this series slip into stupidity so often? I have a sliding scale for my expectations of Star Wars media. When something is animated and rated TV-Y, such as Rebels, I know I'm going to have to get past writing that is more palatable to a juvenile audience. So I look past Stormtroopers missing point blank shots while Ezra defends himself with fruit. But when a live-action show that presents itself with some gravitas has such thoughtless writing, it can be a bit much to take.
That brings us to Part IV of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It literally earned an unintended "laugh out loud" from me, and that's really bad. The last time that happened to me for Star Wars was in The Force Awakens with the "Bigger Death Star". In order to escape from Fortress Inquisitorius with Leia in tow, Obi-Wan literally employed a joke from The Little Rascals:

"Don't be alarmed by my comically oversized trench coat. I'm just a normal sized human trying to escape a secure facility that is on full lock down."
And in case you doubted whether or not this trope was used in The Little Rascals:
And this isn't the end of the absurdity. Apparently the glass keeping the ocean waters from flooding Fortress Inquisitorius can be compromised by a mere E-11 blaster bolt. THEN WHY ON EARTH ARE THE NOTORIOUSLY INACCURATE STORMTROOPERS FIRING AWAY WITH RECKLESS ABANDON IN ITS HALLWAYS?!? Lastly, Moses Ingram is delivering her lines with all the subtlety of a wrestling heel. I'm honestly shocked that Debrah Chow, who delivered some of the BEST episodes of The Mandalorian, is directing some of these performances. I have to think that Disney was banking on the fact that the name on the title would sell the series more than the actual content. They're probably not wrong because this is the best performing Star Wars series to date, but it could be so much better with tighter writing and performances.
Vivien Lyra Blair should get a bonus, because she is hitting a home run each week, and is a big part of the reason I cannot turn away from this show.
