You know what they say about people who assume. They make an "assum" out of "e". I know that Jango and Boba Fett are not considered Mandalorians now, but I assumed that this was recently established in canon (perhaps when the old EU was relegated to Legends status). It is fashionable to blame Disney for everything after all. I further assumed it was done so that Disney could create new Mandalorian mythos without having to worry about contradictions that may have bene established in Episode II, V and VI.
While that rationale is still likely the reason, I had forgotten how long ago this was established, and I'm not saying this is the first canonical instance where the Fetts are established as nobodies. I'm saying that it goes back at least this far. In Season 2:Episode 12 The Mandalore Plot of The Clone Wars, Jango is distanced from the Mandaorians. So Fetts ≠ Mandalorians was established long before Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney.
Mea culpa, Disney! A thousand pardons. I'm old and forget things.
All 6 seasons of The Clone Wars are available on the Disney+ streaming service with season 7 to debut on February 17th of this year.
