Our friends at the @SWTVC Instagram page are wrapping up their annual Vintage Collection March Madness contest. This year it comes down to Mara Jade and Asajj Ventress. Ventress has been consistently demanded in fans polls. She has been in the Top 10 each year for Last Figure Standing, and this is actually her second time in the March Madness Finals. She lost to Dooku in 2023. Asajj dominated in the Final Four blowing away Crosshair 954 to 619. We'll have to see if that carries forward into the finals. It seems like the Bad Batch enthusiasm gets sapped once that particular block gets broken up. Crosshair was the lone member of Clone Force 99 in the Final Four.

Her opponent is Mara Jade, who has a been a long term fan favorite. Mara actually won Hasbro's 2012 Fans' Choice poll. In that case, the fans explicitly nominated Mara Jade Skywalker, which would have represented the character after the events of the Thrawn Trilogy. Hasbro ignored that part of the input, and gave us our third "Emperor's Hand" Jade in the 2013 Black Series 3.75" line:

There was a window to re-release that 2013 Mara Jade in TVC 2.0 with an updated head, but that window has been slammed completely shut. There would be an uproar similar to when Hasbro planned to release the 2007 Darth Revan figure in 2019. The advent of barbell hips, and the reintroduction of rocker ankles have greatly limited Hasbro's re-release opportunities in general. If Hasbro were to revisit Mara Jade, it would demand and an all new sculpt from the ground up and the head down.

Asajj also exists a couple of times in the realistic 3.75" line most recently in a 2008 Comic Pack. That figure has no lower body articulation south of the flat plane hips. It's somewhat shocking that a character as prominent as Ventress has never been given the super articulated treatment. It feels like demand for that figure is reaching a crescendo. I'm personally throwing my vote towards Mara. I love the Thrawn Trilogy, so it's a no-brainer for me, but this is bad news for Mara Jade. I've had a knack for picking the loser this year.
