The curtain is closing on another HasLab campaign. Right now if feels a bit like Christmas Eve. It's one part anticipation, but you also know that the season will soon be over, and the "post holiday blues" start to set in. I remember when the Barge campaign ended, and I was mildly depressed. Yes it was successful, but the "will they / won't they" exhilaration of the previous several weeks was gone. I equated it to watching your favorite team win the Super Bowl. You're exhilarated on one hand, but on the other hand, you're settling in for a grueling seven months of football-less-ness. You convince yourself to watch stupid things like the draft combine just so you can be close to the sport that you love.
The Barge campaign was a nail biter which will forever make it special. The Razor Crest was a laugher from the onset. There was very little drama to that HasLab. The pressure was actually on Hasbro to spitball new stretch goals as the campaign rocketed past the initial ones with weeks to spare. The Ghost has been a bit of both. We knew early on that the Ghost would back, but it would feel hollow if we didn't unlock all the stretch goals which weren't as certain (to some of you). I was confident that we needed to be at 14,500 backers at midnight on day 47 in order to reach the 17,000 required backers. It's been a banner day. We reached 15,000 just after midnight ET. I've already smoked a celebratory cigar (no joke).
As I have been saying from very early on in the campaign, all the tiers are going to unlock. There is zero fear of this. Zeb is going down like a makeshift gameshow stage at the Eden Prairie Mall. So don't misconstrue the following as "tier fear" as some have been alluding to. Plus, lest I remind you, I don't even want the Ghost. I just like seeing The Vintage Collection wreck [stuff]. So if you're on the fence about backing the Ghost, time is running out. No one should go into hock to buy a toy ever, but if it's financially feasible for you, and you're still undecided, let me offer you some advice from my nearly 30 years of collecting:
I have regretted purchases I didn't make much more than purchases I did. I've made quite a few purchases that I later regretted, but all of them combined are not even 1/1000th as painful as the purchases I later regretted not making. That POTF2 Han Tauntaun that I left sitting on the shelf of the West Boylston Walmart still haunts me to this day.
The Ghost will never be less expensive than it is today. Even if the Ghost defies previous HasLab trends and doesn't appreciate in value, it's unlikely to ever sell for less than $500, but you're probably going to have to pay around $100 in shipping. Today will be the cheapest acquisition price for the Ghost ever.
You can always change your mind later. You're not going to be "stuck" with your Ghost. Yes, you will have to carry that $500 for a year, but once it’s delivered, you should be able to get your money back with a little effort. In fact, considering these will likely be delivered shortly before Christmas 2024, you could probably flip it for a nice profit.
If you're on fence, and you can financially afford to do so, I personally recommend taking the plunge. In the long run, it will be less expensive than changing your mind after the campaign ends. If you want to back the Ghost HasLab campaign, click the image below:
