The Vintage Collection Darth Revan Appears To Be A Big Success

As of late, very few Vintage Collection figures seem to sell out during the presale window on Hasbro Pulse with the possible exception of army builders such as the recent Phase II Clone. Many figures don't sell through on Pulse until they come in stock for a while, and some of them don't even clear out until the 35% off sales events. With the exception of Captain Howzer, which was likely ordered in reduced numbers, the entirety of the latest wave (Death Star II Vader wave) is sitting in stock on Pulse at the moment. This is despite the fact that many other retailers such as Entertainment Earth have sold through their initial supply.

So, the gist here is that figures tend to have a slow sell through on Pulse. Therefore when a figure sells out in a matter of days, it raises an eyebrow. The recently revealed Vintage Collection Darth Revan did just that. He's also pre-sold out on Amazon as well. The figure is still available for preorder from site sponsor Entertainment Earth HERE. I'm not saying this to generate some sweet commission dollars, but if you haven't already preordered, I suggest you do. I have to imagine Hasbro is going to follow the Black Series playbook and put this tooling back to immediately use as a light side version. If I'm right, resupplying the standard dark side version might take a while. Suffice it to say, it appears this figure is a hit. So what takeaways can we make?

1. Get Darth Malak Into The Line As Soon As Possible

This is Sparta! the Vintage Collection. Figures in a vacuum might fly in TBS because it's a figure focus line. It's not ideal in the world building scale. This Darth Revan deserves a counterpart that is its equal. 2007's Thirtieth Anniversary Collection 30-35 Darth Malak aint it. That figure is woefully dated today with it's swivel elbows and ankle-less-ness, and the gargantuan mandible was despised by the community since it's debut.

2. Video Game Figures Still Have Juice

Though Hasbro hasn't said it officially, I feel like the Gaming Greats sub-line wasn't a ringing success, and has been canceled. But that shouldn't condemn video game figures entirely. It was the repaints / repacks / minor retools of existing figures to create secondary and tertiary enemies that fans didn't embrace wholeheartedly. Core characters are still embraced. VC265 - Cal Kestis appears to have no problems selling despite being one of the rare TVC 2.0 carry forward figures. The thrice-released, 11 year VC100 - Starkiller, which is also sold out on Pulse, is lapping some newer figure in sales:

3. Sith Sell, Baby!

Death, taxes, and Sith sell. Sith with red lightsabers, anyway. Not the ones in gold lamé bathrobes. If Hasbro still has access to the tooling, some of those comic pack Star Wars: Legacy Sith figures would go gangbusters as TVC repacks. Tell me you wouldn't buy this:

4. Established Core Characters Are The Safest Bet In TVC

Darth Revan is sourced to a video game that launched FOUR console generations ago. Play Station was on its second generation, and X-Box was on its first generation introducing the world to a controller roughly the size of the NFL "Duke" football. Knights of the Old Republic is 20 years old. By the time this figure comes out, you'll be able to legally buy it a beer. Despite this Amazon and Pulse have sold out. Maybe another core character from 20 years ago, Episode III Anakin, should get a shot.
