I know I'm not alone in expressing some shock at the sticker price of the deluxe Boba Fett which goes on presale today. Let me preface by saying, yes, I'm still going to buy it. I just won't be thrilled about it. Let me further say that I have absolutely no problem paying what something costs. That's not the issue here. What I believe happened is that $26.49 is not what this deluxe set is supposed to cost. I believe, in my heart of hearts, that I'm going to be paying $5.50 more than I should because someone made a technical error when setting the MSRP for this item. There is no way that a pair of Stormtrooper helmets and some flame effects costs an additional $12.49 over the basic figure price. Would you pay $12 for the accessories in this set if they were sold by themselves?
What I contend is that someone internally at Hasbro accidentally applied the MSRP of the blister card Maldo Kreis Din Djarin set, which also has an MSRP of $26.49, instead of the $20.97 that the other deluxe items in this boxed expression share. The premium on the Din Djarin set makes sense since it's essentially a creature pack, and as far as we know, a one-off. Heck, I wish I could just buy some extra ice spiders for that extra $12.49. Likewise, the $20.97 price point makes sense for the boxed items when comparing them to Black Series deluxe items (give or take).
Black Series deluxe items cost 39% more than their main line counterparts. If you apply that same percentage to a TVC basic figure, the price point comes out to $19.46. Given that we can't expect pricing to scale perfectly linearly between the two lines, $21 feels "close enough". Once again, I would have no problem paying $26.49 for this deluxe Boba Fett if I felt that was the intended MSRP. But it stinks paying that price when I really suspect that it's the result of someone else's mistake. Nothing about the 89% increase over the basic figure price makes sense to me for the deluxe Boba Fett.
