The community wide Vintage Collection Petition is live. Please SIGN if you would like Hasbro to make more newly tooled 3.75" super articulated Vintage Collection figures per year:
As we recently heard from the Fan First Friday livestream Q&A, the market is pushing Hasbro toward the Black Series. We have no reason to doubt this, but as we rebutted, those market conditions were, at least in part, caused by Hasbro's own missteps. It is our belief that there is still a market for The Vintage Collection, but that market has been dispirited and demotivated over recent years. It's there, but it's grown quiet and apathetic. Our hope is that if this petition can garner enough support, it will provide Hasbro with actionable market data to justify increasing the offerings of newly tooled figures per year.
Many community elders have cautioned against this approach. We know Bantha Skull is relatively new to the fan site community, but the proprietors are getting long in the tooth. In our day jobs we both have the opportunities to lead and mentor. We know how frustrating it can be when the inexperienced disregard the wisdom of those who have gone before. Rest assured, that is not the case here. We have heard and have fully acknowledged that advice.. The decision to proceed against this caution was not taken lightly. It's more of a case of "we need to find out."
The petition costs nothing to sign. There's no commitment to buy anything you don't want. There's intentionally no attempt to ask for specific items. The opportunities for requesting specific items are negligible given the current small size of annual offerings. Only when the world-building scale has robust product breadth and availability, can we reasonably expect to ask for our specific dream items.
If this petition fails to garner meaningful support, it can serve as a valuable wake up call to an increasingly frustrated community. We can refocus our energies away from Hasbro and toward growing our ranks, and how best to support the minimal product we do get. Whether or not we can demonstrate that we are a meaningful economic force is now in your hands. Are we the few thousand dwindling zealots, or are we a robust collector base?
It's not only your mission to sign this petition, but to spread the word to your friends who don't frequent fan sites. I would say that of my real world collector friends, only about half actively participate with online fan sites/groups. As a fan site, we are literally powerless to reach those collectors, but you are not. Share the petition online with the hash tags #FightForTVC#BackTVC and #save375. If you feel bold, @ celebrities who might help spread the cause.
This is a community wide effort involving not just various fan websites and social media pages, but perhaps more importantly, you and all the individual collectors out there that can take a stand and be heard. Without everyone's involvement, we'll all be lucky to keep 8 new figures per year. This is perhaps our last chance to change that.
