We'll start of with the positive news first. In a follow up to their announcement about the next gen upgrades to Jedi: Fallen Order, Respawn announced that the game has surpassed 20 million players worldwide!
One more thing:
As of today, more than 20 million players worldwide have played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order across all consoles, platforms and subscription services.
Jedi: Fallen Order is already the second best selling Star Wars video game of all time, trailing only 2015's Battlefront, so this marks another impressive milestone for an immersive single player narrative- driven game. Give the people what they want, and all that.
Now for the bad news. E3 (trade event for the video game industry) recently concluded, and there were no Star Wars annoucements. No update for the twice-delayed Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga game, which is supposed to be released later this year. No update on Jedi: Fallen Order 2, and no update for Ubisoft's open world Star Wars game. The latter two are planned for 2023 (or later), so they're still far out, and we may get some Fallen Order news at EA Play in July, but it's overall disappointing. It seems the only way we're getting a Star Wars game next year is if the Lego game continues to slip.
What's really puzzling is that it seems like Disney is dead set against having a video game that ties in to The Mandalorian. Given the long development times and the lack of an announcement this year, the earliest we could probably see one is 2025, at which point it might no longer have the same relevance. We are so far removed from the golden age of Star Wars gaming when even a "villain" such as Jango Fett rated a dedicated game.
Oh well, here's hoping that Santa brings me that Lego game, and that Aspyr's remake of Knights of the Old Republic is actually happening. I swear it was confirmed for Q3 this year, but in researching it for this article, I only see mentions of a rumor.
