The Mandalorian Chapter Two: The Child

I'm a Mandalorian; weapons are part of my religion.

First of all, let me get this out of my system: how cute is the Mandalorian's bounty? Oh, he (?) is so cute! I wuv him!! Ok, I'm done.

This episode was an interlude. I think that's the best way to describe it. And that's okay, interludes are okay. The premier episode was a lot to take in, and it was just 3 days ago. I think we were well served by this interlude. At least it wasn't a back-door pilot for a spin-off show about Carl Weathers’ character running a diner that only serves stew. Not that I wouldn't watch that, I would. So would you.

The Mandalorian, target acquired, returns to his ship only to find it vandalized by those filthy, stinking, disgusting, "nobody likes them or should buy their action figures" Jawas. Maybe it was because I was also taking notes, but I didn't realize at first that they had torn his ship apart, and was confused as to why he started attacking them. Did this lessen my enjoyment of said Jawa massacre? Reader, you know it did not.

Let me backtrack: prior to this scene, Mando and the bounty find themselves attacked by some Trandoshans. Mando makes pretty quick work of them, and this scene in particular really drove home how great the fight scenes are in this show. Not just the gunfights, but the hand to hand/melee stuff. It's intense, but restrained. No acrobatics. I like it a lot. Anyway, bested by the Jawas due to their sheer number (and probably their stink, too), Mando returns to Kuiil's house, who agrees to help. Kuiil has a good relationship with the Jawas (I have previously referred to Ugnaughts as 'sky Jawas'). They agree to return Mando's parts if he gets the “the egg.” Again, I have to admit to some confusion here because at first I thought they were referring the bounty's conveyance, which didn't make a lot of sense. But no, it was an actual egg that Mando has to get by first killing a creature called a Mudhorn. I initially thought this was a Reek from AOTC; but it's not. It is when Mando is beaten and about to be killed by the Mudhorn that we get a major revelation about the bounty! This was not a shock to me. You knew this was going to come up eventually, and in retrospect it's almost as if this was the whole point of the entire episode. This interlude episode does little to advance the overall plot, save for this big revelation. Editor's Note: This episode also develops a sense of paternalism by The Mandalorian toward his bounty.

So that major revelation happened and the big question now is where does Mando go from here? Does he take his bounty back to "The Client" and the scientist? I mean, the man's gotta get paid. Wouldn't it be funny if that's what happened, seriously? He took the bounty back to his client, got paid, they vivisect it, and the show moves on to a completely different plot line.

So, I notice with this episode, in addition to the chapter number there is also a title; I guess the title of the first chapter is simply The Mandalorian. Have I mentioned how much I love the music for this show? It sounds nothing like anything else in Star Wars.
