Tucked away in a The Hollywood Reporter article about animated characters making the jump to live action, comes the following gem. THR writes:
...Ahsoka Tano, the fan-favorite Jedi, appeared in animation in 2008 before Rosario Dawson made the jump to live action in The Mandalorian season two. Now, Dawson is leading a live-action Ahsoka spinoff for Disney+, with sources saying Lucasfilm is looking for an actress to star opposite Dawson as Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren.
Rebels was a series that took a little time to find its stride. Before the series debuted, the character profile of Sabine immediately reminded me of Poochie from the Simpsons.
As the kids say these days, Sabine was a little too "extra.” If you think kids don't say that it's because you don't know any cool kids. But I have to admit that, just like Ahsoka herself, the character grew on me over time. I'm personally not displeased that Sabine Wren is reportedly making the jump to live action, but I know there will be much gnashing of teeth over this. However, the tea leaves were clear to read once an Ahsoka series was announced. The Rebels epilogue established that Ahsoka and Wren were setting out on a mission to find Ezra Bridger. Ahsoka's appearance in The Mandalorian made it clear that mission is ongoing as she's trying to find the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who disappeared with Ezra. Therefore it's only natural that Sabine would be part of that continuing effort.
If you're upset about another Filoni-verse character making the jump to Disney+ live action, take solace. It also means the best villain from the expanded universe will as well. (And there are rumors that Grand Admiral Thrawn has already been cast).
