The episode opens with Hera, Sabine, and Ezra on board the Phantom as they are pursued by TIE fighters. Hera’s piloting skills are top notch; nevertheless, the Phantom does sustain some damage during the fight. When they get back to the Ghost, Hera tells Sabine that the two of them will be going to an abandoned Clone Wars era base to retrieve some supplies courtesy of Fulcrum. Now apparently Sabine, the teenage graffiti artist who ranks below the sentient dog and just above Ezra in the crew hierarchy, feels slighted because Hera won’t tell her the real identity of their contact. Sure. They’ll entrust you with that knowledge if they ever need someone to draw caricature of her...or him...whoever it is.
Meanwhile, Hera tells Zeb, Chopper, and Ezra (I would call them the 3 Stooges, but that would be an insult because the Stooges actually bring joy to people) repair the damage to the Phantom before she and Sabine head out in it. Guess what? They foul it up. Mostly because Chopper is more interested in killing Ezra; like, literally, murdering him and laughing while doing it. While I certainly endorse this, you gotta TCB first.
So, the ladies arrive at the abandoned base, and it’s pretty well done, with the appropriate Clone Wars era stuff seen lying around. Sabine, still sulking, tells Hera that she doesn’t like the secrecy of the whole Fulcrum thing because it reminds her of her time at the Imperial Academy on Mandalore when she was forced to just blindly follow orders. She probably also ran for student body president and lost what was clearly a rigged election; so that left a bad taste in her mouth too. Now, as exciting as it is to listen to a couple of chicks talk about their trust issues while lugging crates full of supplies, the episode notches it up even further when the two learn that the base is infested with fyrnocks.
They find themselves under attack and hopelessly outnumbered by the creatures. Getting in the ship and taking off isn’t an option because those idiots left the fuel line with a leak in it. Also, for some reason that I never caught, they can’t just hide in the ship with the door locked. That’s a shame because then the episode could have turned into a Cujo homage. That would have been cool. Actually, no, you know what, save the Cujo homage for when Zeb gets rabies. Sabine’s knowledge of explosives is put to good use allowing her and Hera to thin the herd; nevertheless they find themselves trapped on top of the Phantom and about to be over-run as a large asteroid threatens to block the sunlight that is keeping the creatures at bay.
Hera has already contacted Zeb, but will they get there in time? Yes. Yes they will; and do. The guys help fight off the fyrnocks. Ezra uses his sling-shot. Just when he starts to think a little too much of himself he immediately gets mauled by one of the fyrnocks and Sabine has to pop a space cap in its dome.
They get away, and Hera forgives Ezra and Zeb for nearly getting her killed for probably the third or fourth time that week. Is she collecting a check on these two? Seriously? In the meantime, Sabine sees that maybe she should lighten up on all the you don’t tell me everything stuff because Hera obviously trusts her with her life. Although, she also trusts Zeb, Ezra, and Chopper with her life; so, that’s not really saying much.
Rewatch? Yeah, it’s not a bad episode. Good opening dogfight, some good tension and action at the base. I liked the CW stuff littering the base. This is the first mention of and first voice over appearance of Fulcrum. First good Hera episode. Ezra wets himself with fear a couple of times.
