Random Vintage Collection Thoughts For Tuesday 3/2

Here are three more things I'm thinking about with respect to the Vintage Collection

  • All the new media is making me worried about any serious acknowledgement of the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi in 2023. There are a handful of critical O96 figures that need to be tackled, such as Bib Fortuna, Squid Head (Tessek), EV-9D9, and 8D8, just to name a few. Repeat: that's just a few of the Episode VI's missing 096's. There's also the equally important NON O96 figures that need to be updated, such as the Ewok Village Leia, and all new figures, such as Taym Dren-garen, Window Weequay and Yotts Oren. It feels like the entire year's new tooling budget could be put to just Return of the Jedi, and we'd still be left wanting. Considering that it's going to be a crowded field with so much new media, it suspect we'll be lucky to get one or two of the above.

  • We talked about vehicles on the recent Vintage Collection Show Live Stream. John (@thevintageconcepts) talked about the need for a product between the $13 figures and the $100 X-Wings. I agree with that point, I just don't know what that product is. I fear that anything that is small enough to be less than $100, is going to be expensive enough to cause fans to flip out. We discussed the Speeder Bike. The last time it came out in 2012, it was $25 and came with a figure. I remember fans complaining about that price then. It feels like the best we could hope for in 2021 is a $25-$30 Speeder Bike without a figure. Would that go over? We have the Adventure Sets for $50, and it seems like that last two pieces have left fans feeling like they didn't get their money's worth. Again, I agree with the sentiment. I just don't know what the product is. You should check out John's Instagram page (linked above) for some amazing Vintage Collection card mock ups.

  • Or do I know what that product is? I will repeat my call for a deluxe Vintage Collection line, but it doesn't just have to be big figures. That's certainly a major part of it. We need figures like Paz Vizsla in the line, but it could also be used as a platform to bring back big accessories. They've kind of done this with the Armory Pack for the Sith Trooper, but that's really just a big load out of accessories. I'm talking about BIG accessories, like the ones that came with BD34 - Ben Kenobi and BD35 - Pons Limbic. Little bit bigger card. Little big bigger accessories. Little bit bigger price. LET'S MAKE THIS PICTURE!
