Recently, Hasbro introduced the second new expression in the Vintage Collection with deluxe figures:
The Imperial Stormtrooper with E-Web Cannon is particularly interesting because it has a vintage Kenner counterpart (roughly speaking):

But therein lies a problem. I've frequently contended that the modern iteration of the Vintage Collection (i.e. TVC 2.0) is confused. It thinks it's supposed to be a reproduction of the vintage Kenner line.
The Vintage Collection is not supposed to be a reproduction of the vintage Kenner line. That's the Retro Collection. The Vintage Collection is supposed to be an imagined continuation of the vintage Kenner line, as if it never ended in 1985. Among other things, this means correcting Kenner's mistakes given all the knowledge gained since 1978 (i.e. the Death Star Droid should be black and not silver). One of those other things is that we should not be locked into only expressions that existed in the Kenner line.
To that point, I continue to maintain the need for, and will continue to advocate for, Vintage Collection Comic Packs. The introduction of Comic Packs in the 30th Anniversary Line was a reason for celebration. They were continued into the 2008 and 2009 Legacy Collection lines, and represent some of the most sought after offerings in the modern line. I would kill to see the Comic Pack expression realized in the Vintage Collection. As we've mentioned before, Hasbro could limp into such a product line with repacks, and I would still be interested.
