Hi, my name is Chris. I collect the Vintage Collection and only the Vintage Collection. I don't collect Black Series, Marvel, LEGOs, NECCA nonsense, bubble gum cards, stamps, coins, bottle caps, horse chestnuts or used celebrity napkins. 100% of my collecting money goes into one thing. If you think I'm being too monolithic in my collecting habits, let me remind you:
Curly said the secret to life is [collecting] one thing.
If you got here from the front page or social media, you saw that I made a joke about wanting monthly Vintage Collection HasLabs. In reality, I would be comfortable with two Vintage Collection HasLabs a year, perhaps one big and one small. But that's easy for me to say when I personally only collect that one property. Despite the fact that this is a Star Wars website, two of the most active threads in our forums are for Marvel and Transformers collecting. So even within the core Bantha Skull community, my collecting pattern may not be representative.
On Saturday, nomad wrote this article that points out how factionalized the Vintage Collection community is. We all love the scale and TVC, but what we want is incredibly varied. The best we can do is arrive at a "lowest common denominator" for that varied collecting base. I'll give you an example that may shock some readers. You may all know of my love for Jabba's Palace, but I would never support a Cane Adiss figure (I have no idea where it appears in the movie).
So while I think we can all acknowledge that we have varying opinions on what Hasbro should make, we also have varying opinions on how much, especially with the bigger ticket itmes. It's both a monetary and a space concern. As stated, I would be happy with two Vintage Collection HasLabs a year, but that might be a completely out of touch position. People who collect multiple lines, some of which might also have their own HasLabs (to include Black Series), might cringe at that wallet-busting potential.
I'm genuinely curious as to where the rest of you are on this subject. Ever since personal biases played a role in birthing one of the worst peg warmers in history, I'm deathly afraid of having a blind spot when it comes to my personal collecting wants being out of touch with the community.
