PSA:  Please Stop Using The Phrase “Playset”

BB-8 Mega Playset
That's not a playset. Now, this is a playset.

In the wake of the Jabba's Palace "Adventure Set", the phrase "playset" has been popping up frequently on Facebook groups and on-line collector forums alike. That terms needs to be stricken from the Jedi archives. You don't mean it. In fact, you likely hate "playsets".

The BB-8 2-in-1 Mega Playset is a playset. All the collecting community did was complain about it.

I hate the rounded walls.

This isn't screen accurate.

Some even seemed angered by it's mere existence. I don't personally get that, but I'm not going to get on my "holier-than-thou" collector high horse and look down on you if that's your stance. This is a hobby driven by passion. As soon as we start belittling the forms that passion takes, we start chipping away at the hobby. So while I don't get that stance, I respect that kind of passion, but I'm getting off on a tangent. The main point is that the playset was largely rejected by the collecting community. Despite this, "WE WANT MORE PLAYSETS" is popping up everywhere in positive response to the Jabba's Palace "Adventure Set". In a hypothetical one-sided conversation in my mind, I could see some Hasbro designer reading that and thinking:

We did give you a playset for The Last Jedi, and you sent me hate mail.

It's because the last thing in the world we want is a "playset". We want things that are completely and utterly devoid of play features if it in anyway compromises the aesthetic. Realism is the most important factor. What we want are environment pieces for WORLD BUILDING. As a community we need make sure our messaging is on point, and "environment piece" more closely defines the message.

And Hasbro, if you're reading, those environment pieces don't necessarily have to be grand in scale (though we'll gladly take more ambitious projects). They can be as simple as the diorama parts offered by Hole In The Ground Productions.
