The search for a copy of the 2nd printing of High Republic #1 brought me pretty far afield. The closest store to me that still had a copy come noon time was 45 minutes away in another state. They agreed to hold a copy for me until that night. The store was actually part of a two location chain that I had oft frequented prior to moving. They are called That's Entertainment. I used to make an almost weekly trip to that store (Worcester location), and they are the source of many of the carded samples featured in our older galleries.
Last night's trip brought me to the other location (Fitchburg) for the first time. The usual comic shop chit chat ensued, and the casual mention of this site came up. That's when the manager said, "do you want to buy some POTF Australian exclusives?" I was immediately thinking POTF2. When he said that the figures were Nikto, AT-AT Driver, and the Gamorrean Guard I looked at him puzzled. Nikto wasn't carded in POTF2, and the AT-AT Driver was a Fan Club exclusive (initially). Then he said, "the ones with the coins. 1985." (hi-res images below)
I think my heart leapt out of my chest. I had never seen these figures in my entire life. I was literally shaking at one point. I was placing frantic calls to both Paul Harrison and John Miko to try to get a sense of their value. Ultimately we decided to sleep on any purchase (and I'm sick about leaving the Gamorrean Guard there). The store won't ship these items due to their value and fragility, but if you would like to inquire, they should still be there.
Call (978) 342-8607 and ask to speak to John. And hey if you do, could you kindly slip in that you found out about these on Bantha Skull. Maybe I'll get a buck of my next comic.
