There's a good chance that as you're reading this, I'm on the road to Laconia, NH with good friend of the site, John Miko from the Star Wars The Vintage Collection Facebook Group. We're heading up to Funspot which is the Guinness World Records holder as the largest arcade in the world. Even though I am a lifelong New Englander, I had never heard of Funspot until I stumbled upon this documentary on Youtube:
80's arcades, Star Wars, Saturday morning cartoons, and synth rock are some of the most nostalgic things for me. So once I realized this place was a relatively short drive from me, I knew that I had to visit. I mentioned it to Mr. Miko, and plans were made. I hope that John is ready for Van Halen's Jump on a loop during the drive up.
It should be noted that Funspot is considered the world's largest arcade because the chance games, such as Skeeball, are counted. I believe that the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Chicago has the largest collection of pure video games.
Now I promised you a Star Wars tie in. Funspot has the cockpit version of the 1983 Star Wars arcade game:
That's going to be the highlight of my trip, and I can't wait to play it. I will try to share as much of the day as I can on Twitter, so be sure to follow us.
